What Goes Up...

Deep black where

No light glows.

I feel lost

As one unaided.

My dark friend,

You greet me.

Wish I could

Let you go.

Despise you, failure.

Weary of struggle.

Faced with illusions,

Why want reality?

Long to veil

My relentless anguish.

Cannot mask it,

But I try.

Part of what I love about excellent poetry is it captures in beautiful word pictures powerful moments in your life. Whether those moments be those of victory, failure, frustration, depression, joy, that's what great poetry does. This captures all those for me in very personal ways. Thank you.

That's beautiful. Sad, but beautiful. I sometimes am floored that my own life could be so woven into the words of someone who, to the outside world, probably seems so different than me. I hate the downswing, and I'm sorry you identify so closely with me in it. Thanks for sharing this, despite the desire to mask it.

Lol, in response to warm heart's comments and then to yours, it is very hard to write happy poetry. I think when one is feeling all the things barefoot poet described, all that comes forth is fragmented thoughts. and that is where poetry is born. I am very glad that you are writing, and thanks for posting it. Sometimes that is hard, too.

Poetry is such a fun genre to give others just a peek of what is going on inside your heart, mind, and soul. It takes vulnerability to write. It is fun to see what old friends are up to. This world of blogging is that special opportunity for me!! (From a dear old friend)
