First Sketches

Here are some of my first sketches. I haven't posted pictures before so bear with me. I had to erase my name while editing all of these thus the little white box in each of the pictures. First-timer's mistake I guess. I'll know better next time! This afternoon I am reading through Drawing with Children - A Creative Method for Adult Beginners, Too by Mona Brookes that Supermom (also an artist) graciously loaned me. I am thoroughly enjoying it so far!

If there are any sketching tips you'd like to give, fire away.

Wow! I am very impressed. In Sunday School this morning, I had to draw Joseph with ten brothers bowing down to him... One of my PRESCHOOLERS started laughing. :) I won't be posting any pictures.

Laughing. Don't throw in the towel yet. You should check out the book I'm reading.

toftg, I am soooooooo with you in this area. i prefer playing and experimenting with words. but for the first time in my life, I'm right around the corner from "not being willing to accept that there are some things I just can't do anymore" street. i may not be a sketch artist, but maybe it's because i haven't practiced or really tried. it's a weird feeling that is coming back to me - one of feeling like I just might be able to do anything I set my mind to.

litlover, i'm so glad to see your wonderful sketchings! they are really great and I know I enjoyed seeing them this morning. i look forward to more. and, you are definitely showing some bravery (my favorite word) by putting your sketches out here. you go, girl!
:-) thank you, Lord, for the artist and beauty in my friend.

Wow! You have been busy :) I sketched two whole pages in my moleskine during church this morning - illustrative writing counts as sketching, right?

And to janiners - I just began learning to write and participated in an 7-week long fiction writers workshop at the library and learned so much. I'm not going to quit there - I want to learn French (at least enough to read and pronounce it) and then it might me cool to take piano lessons someday :) I may be 38, but I'm still learning!

YES! Drawing With Children is a great book. A few others to check out next time you're at the library:

Drawing On the Right Side of the Brain
by Betty Edwards

And my latest favorite: The Creative License by Danny Gregory
